Set Nets

Further evolving set
net fishing

A set net system consists of bag-shaped fishing nets and lead nets along with ropes to secure and anchor the nets. Most set nets are set up in waters shallower than 100 meters, and because of the short transport time from the fishing grounds, the freshness of the caught fish is high, making them easier to sell at the market. With the aim of further strengthening our set net business, Nitto Seimo not only provides high-performance net products that help you get better catches, but also offers a system that makes it possible to visualize what’s going on inside your net. This system enables you to determine species and catch quantity, before you even harvest them. In turn, you can choose the processing method that best suits your buyer’s needs (live, “ikejime” rapid slaughtering, icing, etc.) while on board, thereby helping you get higher value for your catch.

What Nitto Seimo
Can Do for You

Optimal fishing gear
design to help you
get better catches

Nitto Seimo’s unique
high specific gravity nets

With set nets, fish stay in the net for an extended period of time. Accordingly, minimizing the effects of ocean currents leads to increased catches. Nitto Seimo offers EK nets which have high specific gravity to prevent ocean currents from affecting net shape. We use EK nets for the funnel, which guides fish into the trap; the playground, where the fish stay; and the chamber net, where the fish are harvested.

Net shape simulation

Using the NaLA simulation software system, we are able to design nets that minimize the effect of ocean currents. This system is also able to quantify where forces concentrate across the set net system when subjected to tidal currents, enabling the selection of the optimal net and rope materials and strengths. It also calculates the buoyancy and sinking performance of the entire set net system, enabling the creation of designs suited to the needs of your fishing grounds.

Reducing your fishing workload

Labor-saving machinery

Hauling in nets and driving fish into the trap requires a lot of manpower. Nitto Seimo has long been engaged in the development and sale of labor-saving machinery that meets the needs of the people working out on the water.
In recent years, we have taken part in industry-government-academia collaboration to develop new products, as well as research exploring new ways of hauling in set nets.

Fish sales support

Main Products Used
in Our Set Nets

  • Knotless Nets

    Knotless Nets

20%-30% stronger than conventional knotted nets, lighter in weight, and space-saving.

  • Special Knotless Nets

    Special Knotless Nets

Less unevenness reduces damage caused by abrading, increasing durability.

  • Synthetic Fiber Ropes

    Synthetic Fiber Ropes

We offer four types of materials and two types of strands to suit different purposes.

  • Compound Ropes

    Compound Ropes

These tough ropes combine high-strength wire strands with synthetic fibers.

  • Ships and Fishing Equipment

    Ships and Fishing Equipment

We provide machines and other equipment to help reduce the manpower involved in hauling in nets.

  • Antifouling Agents

    Antifouling Agents

We develop and supply antifouling agents that inhibit the adherence and growth of marine organisms on fishing nets.
