We have extensive expertise in set nets and purse seine nets, as well as aquaculture nets, trawl nets, and laver cultivation nets. Further, leveraging the same technologies we have cultivated in the manufacturing of fishing nets, we also produce animal damage protection nets, ball protection nets, and other net products, meeting the needs of a wide range of fields.

As a comprehensive manufacturer of fishing nets, Nitto Seimo is making use of its scale to actively engage in the development of raw materials for nets. For example, discarded fishing nets have become an environmental issue because they continue to drift on the ocean indefinitely. Accordingly, we are working with manufacturers to develop nets made of biodegradable materials that can eventually break down naturally.

Nitto Seimo’s roles go beyond just the manufacture and sale of fishing nets. In a time when declining fish catches are becoming a major problem for the world, we are able to advise our customers on how best to use their nets to reduce losses and increase catches by utilizing our own in-house simulation software. In addition to fishing nets, we are able to procure the ships and labor-saving equipment that are necessary in the fishing industry. We can provide mobility to efficiently reach target fishing grounds, and support to reduce the heavy labor involved in hauling in nets. We also provide support for bringing to market the fish our customers catch using our nets.

Under the stresses of everyday fishing, even the toughest nets accumulate damage and tears, and get dirty, making them more difficult to use. That’s why Nitto Seimo also provides continuous support in the form of fishing net maintenance. Repairs are done by hand. Cleaning is performed in the water using a net cleaning machine. When a net is particularly soiled, we take it out of the water to remove deposits either using a high-powered pressure washer or by hand.

Factors such as the harsh working conditions are resulting in fewer and fewer choosing to start businesses and keep existing ones afloat. To confront such industry challenges, under the key phrase of “smart fisheries,” we develop and provide solutions for reducing labor and taking countermeasures against natural disasters. Our technologies are helping to pave the way for the future of the industry.

To explore the future of the fishing industry, we are actively collaborating with external partners in our research and development. One example is our industry-government-academia collaboration to develop a satellite-based set net information service that enables fishermen to monitor how much fish their nets have caught while on land. We are also working with universities and other organizations to adapt new technologies for use in set net fishing.
